David and Bocas del Toro

From Santiago we caught a very comfy double decker bus to David, which is the kicking off point for tours to Bocas del Toro islands in the Caribbean and other National Parks of Panama. David was a very dull city, so it was just as well we only had a few hours in it before going to bed!
The only point of interest was the central park.
With some very beautiful silver grey palm trees, we had not seen these before.

A mini bus took us over the mountains.
round some bends at hairy rates - we were glad of the cross to protect us!
And onto another high speed boat to take us to the town of Bocas del Toro.

Along the way people lived on the river.

fishing in dugout canoes.
sanitary arrangements weren't too good - again!
In the port the ship was waiting to transport your bananas.
We decided to stay in Bocas for a couple of nights to veg out!
It's a quaint old Caribbean fishing village that is in the process of 'being developed', but is still very laid back and we just had a good rest.
We had a very nice welcome drink at out hotel.
We wandered around admiring the wooden houses,

peeping in windows,
Buying lots of fruit.

Looking in souvenir shops.

Watching the kids have a good time.

Realizing that some didn't live too well.
Storing water is always a problem in these parts - thank heavens for plastic containers.
and for men who mend things in holes!
The last evening we were there several people were practicing for Carnival!

We wondered if this cross was protecting the owners of the house.
We decided to have lobster for supper - yes again!
our stay ended with a beautiful moon.
